When Fantastical is the right choice
If you want the same calendar app on your iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch as on your Mac, InstaCal does not compete — it is a Mac menu bar app and nothing else. Fantastical's apps across the Apple platforms are the reason a lot of people subscribe, and that is a real reason.
The same goes for scheduling links and availability sharing. Those need a hosted service behind them, InstaCal deliberately has no server, and so it will not be adding them.
What InstaCal is for is the person who uses the menu bar panel constantly, uses the rest rarely, and would rather pay once.
