When Fantastical is the right choice

If you need hosted scheduling links, availability pages, multi-host openings or the account-backed services around a calendar, Fantastical is built for that and the subscription funds it. InstaCal deliberately has no server of its own.

The same goes for scheduling links and availability sharing. Those need a hosted service behind them; InstaCal deliberately has no server, so they are outside the current product's scope.

What InstaCal is for is the person who uses the menu bar panel constantly, uses the rest rarely, and would rather pay once.

InstaCal vs. Fantastical

Is InstaCal a full replacement for Fantastical?
For Mac menu bar use, largely yes: the panel, plain-English entry with a live preview, Calendar Sets, one-click meeting join and a full calendar window are all there, with native iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch apps included too. It is not a replacement if you need Fantastical's hosted scheduling links, openings or other account-backed collaboration services.
Does InstaCal have Calendar Sets?
Yes, and they are included in the purchase price. Name a group of calendars and switch the whole panel from the footer in one click; a set can span Apple, Google and Microsoft accounts.
Does InstaCal have natural-language event entry?
Yes, with a live preview that builds as you type so you can see the date, time and calendar before you commit. On macOS 26 Apple Intelligence parses on-device; earlier versions use InstaCal's own parser.
Can I use both?
Yes. Both read the same underlying calendar accounts, so nothing breaks if you use them side by side or prefer a different one on a particular device.
