🎛 Button Layout on iPhone

iPhone

Arrange InstaCal’s iPhone bars — move buttons to any position, reshape the view switcher, order compact mode’s menu and hide what you don’t use.

Open the editor

Open Settings → Display → Button Layout. The page is a working model of the phone: both bars with every position drawn, empty positions included as dashed circles. Choose Expanded or Compact at the top — each mode keeps its own arrangement, and both follow your other iPhones through settings sync. Reset restores the standard arrangement for the mode you are editing and leaves the other mode alone.

Move buttons anywhere

Drag a button onto an empty position to move it, or onto another button to trade places. Either side of either bar can hold any button, so a fully left-handed arrangement is possible. The bottom bar takes two positions on each side of the view switcher and holds at most eight buttons; a drop the row cannot take springs back.

Rearrange the view switcher

In Expanded mode the switcher is six spots you arrange like any other button. Drag a view out and the switcher shrinks to the views that are left; drag Reminders in and it sits among them. A non-view dropped between two views splits the switcher into two groups, drawn in the preview exactly as the bar will draw them.

Order compact mode’s menu

Compact folds the views into one switcher button whose tap opens a menu. In the editor, that menu is the Show in Switcher Menu table: one list you order freely, views and buttons mixed, drawn top to bottom exactly as the menu opens. Add Separator places a divider you can drag where a break should read and delete when it shouldn’t. Turn on Second Row to keep the Up Next bubble’s row as a real second row, so nothing folds into the menu.

Jump with press and hold

Press and hold the compact switcher to jump straight to a calendar view or Reminders, then hold again to land back exactly where you were — the view and the reminders state together. It starts out going to Reminders, and the destination’s icon and title fade in above the Up Next bubble on the way there and back. Configure the gesture under Longpress Menu Icon: Switches To picks the destination or turns the jump off, and Hold Time sets how long the hold must last.

Hide what you don’t use

Drag a button into Hidden Items and it is gone from the bars and every menu until you drag it back out. In Expanded mode, Show in Overflow Menu holds buttons behind the overflow button instead: the ••• is itself placeable on either bar, appears only when it has something to open, draws a lone command directly rather than a menu of one, and can be switched off entirely. Settings always stays reachable, because the editor lives behind it.

Tip: The Up Next Bubble switch on the same page removes the countdown bubble when you want the calendar edge to edge.
